IT WAS EMILY... A LOVELY STORY WRITTEN BY OUR STUDENT FROM 2ºB ELENA SANCHEZ
It was Emily's first time on a plane she was so
excited she couldn’t sleep at all. Instead, she just looked down to see those
cotton candy clouds that were usually above her. If she closed her eyes she
could even taste them, melting in her mouth. While she was daydreaming about
cotton candy and sweets suddenly her phone rang.
“I suppose it’s mum, she told me she would call me as
soon as she could” she thought.
But it wasn’t her mum, if poor
“Hello?” she asked, but no answer was given,
everything was oddly quiet and the only sound she could hear was the bad static
coming from her phone.
“Hello?!” she repeated anxiously without receiving any
answer.
Something was wrong, she quickly hung up, but it was
already too late.
As soon as she looked around she realized she
was no longer on a plane, but in a weird old looking room. The room was filled
with old magazines and lots of red and purple streamers on its sides. There were
no windows nor door, the only thing that connected the room with the outside
was a small fireplace with a small fire burning in it. The only thing in the
centre was a small table with a cup of tea and a shortbread biscuit .Emily was
starving and ate it all at once, she felt guilty, but promised herself to pay
the owners as soon as she could. After meticulously inspecting the room
she realised that there was no way of going out.
“ As soon as the owners arrive I’ll pay them the food
and ask for directions to return home” Emily thought.
So she waited, and waited, and finally fell asleep.
While she was having the greatest of dreams something woke her up. It seemed as
if the owners of the room had arrived. Emily was going to yell to get their
attention and tell them she was inside, but she freezed. It was this awkward
feeling again, something was wrong, if she made the slightest sound she
wouldn’t be able to go alive. Outside the room she could hear cold steps, as if
their feet were crawling. Emily almost passed out, as soon as the steps were
far enough she searched the room for a way out, a hole or a trap door,
something big enough for her to escape. As she was looking between the old
magazines she saw a padlock symbol on one of them, it was the same symbol as in
the chimney.
Emily slowly turned around and looked at the roaring
fireplace. She took a deep breath and went into it. Emily had never experienced
so much pain in her entire life, it was as if her skin was melting and millions
of needles were making their way through her skin. She wanted to scream in pain
and call for help, but the mysterious creatures were too close and as soon as
they heard her they would definitely kill her. So biting her mouth and letting
tears roll through her cheeks she climbed up the chimney, almost choking and
feeling like she was running out of air. The chimney seemed to have no end, but
she eventually reached the top, just to see that she wasn’t where she imagined.
There was a huge plane with billions of creepy looking
flowers, that were laying in what seemed to be grass. The flowers seemed
to sing a hipnotic when the wind blew, and if you paid attention to them you
would realize that in their centre there were masks that seemed like human
faces. If you looked far away you could spot some pink mountains hiding an
orange and what seemed to be tall trees in front of them. There were lots of
crazy things there, but no sign of life at all. Those beautiful flowers, those
trees and the small dots that flew around her seemed to have no life at
all. She looked into the sky and saw not one, but three moons. Emily let
herself drop into the roof and started crying like a baby; this wasn’t home,
this wasn't anything like it
INTERVIEWING MAMEN ALLEPUZ ROS FROM THE FERROVIAL COMPANY ABOUT RECYCLING
MARINA 1ºB
1-
To make a responsible consumption, what material would you advise us to reduce?
One
thing that I see as responsible and that should be done to reduce the
consumption of materials would be to use recyclable materials. And that when we
go to buy we know what we have to buy and not buy in excess by making a
shopping list.
2-What
is the circular and the linear economy?
Well, the circular economy is like a circle so to speak,
because we buy it, we use it and finally you reuse it. And the linear is that
you buy them, use them and then throw them away directly, instead of reusing
it. The circular is like an endless cycle while the linear one ends very
quickly.
3- What Is the recycling agenda for the next
few years?
193 countries are working together to achieve
17 goals, of which 4 are dedicated to the environment, caring of the oceans, saving energy, sustainable cities, etc. All this
refers that we all have to work together to save the planet.
4- What Are the environmental benefits of
reducing garbage consumption?
Most of the garbage that we throw away is
organic, if we end up throwing it into the yellow container, the garbage that would have to be in the landfills
will go out of the city and contaminate more and more.

Recycling ( Interview
about recycling)
Last Thursday
we had a very interesting Interview with a woman of Ferrovial services, a recycling company. We asked
four questions about recycling in different aspects.
For the first
question: to make responsible consumption, what products do you recommend?
She said that our thrush defines ourselves, because we can see what we consume and what we use in our daily life. To be a responsible
consumer she recommends that before
you go shopping, you make a list with the things you have and once you finish with that one, another one with the
things you need. Also she gave us
tips for those lists, like don't buy unnecessary things or things of using
and throwing away.
For the second question: what is the circular economy
and what is the lineal economy?
She said that the circular economy
consists in extending the life of an object
to the maximum and once it can
no longer be recycled and converted into material to make another
new object.
For the third
question: What is the recycling agenda for the next two years? Some years ago, many countries
met and they made a 2030 agenda in which we can find many points about
recycling.
And finally
for the fourth
question: Which are the advantages for the environment?
She said that
if we are responsible consumers we will have many benefits. If we classify and recycle, the landfills
will decrease and we will help reducing pollution and other environmental issues.

LEARNING HOW TO RECYCLE IN OUR DAILY LIFE
Students from 1º B have interviewed Mamen Allepuz Ros, in charge of the Educational Projects at Ferrovial company for the eTwinning project with Turkey and Polland. Mamen has answered all the questions the students made her related to recycling habits. Students have learned a lot of things thanks to Mamen.
